Ruy led the way through the hallways. The humans followed him like ducks following their mother, which shouldn’t have been as amusing as Ruy found it. These humans didn’t trust him, yet they were coming with him. For all they knew, he could be leading them to their deaths.

“This is incredible,” Gideon said.

He hadn’t stopped looking around in wonder, and that was enough for Ruy to soften toward him. It was clear that of all the humans in the delegation, Gideon was the only one happy to be there. He was actually excited, which Ruy hadn’t expected but probably should have considering the tone of some of Gideon’s emails.

“Is there a way to get a tour of the palace?” Gideon asked.

Ruy and Christian exchanged a glance. They’d expected the delegation to ask for that, so they had a plan in place.

“You’ll be allowed to explore the palace over the next few days,” Ruy explained. “Of course, you won’t be allowed everywhere, which is why Christian and my assistant Yorick have volunteered to help and be your tour guides. A few of our other human clan members have agreed to do the same, so you’ll be able to ask questions.”

That had been Christian’s idea, and Ruy was glad he’d agreed to it. He hadn’t thought much about it, but it made sense that the humans wanted to find out more about the palace. To Ruy, it was home. To them, it probably looked like a movie.

They walked past the many people hanging around the hallways to see the human delegation. All of them stared with wide eyes, and every human in the delegation did the same. The clan wasn’t used to having so many humans around, but the humans no doubt had never seen so many dragons together, especially in their dragon form. After all, their human form had only been revealed recently.

Ruy held his head high and continued walking. He wasn’t ashamed of his work for the queen, even though he knew many disagreed with it. The problem was that those dragons didn’t trust her. They’d rather have someone else on the throne, maybe her cousin, but thankfully, Caven was on her side. Ruy had the opportunity of watching them work together over the past few weeks, and there were no signs of the person Caven had been before. It made Ruy wonder which one was the real Caven. Was it the one he knew now, or the one who’d betrayed his cousin and had attempted to take the throne from her?

He supposed it didn’t matter. Caven was the person he was now, and hopefully, he wouldn’t change again. Ruy quite liked how he’d ended up, and he was closer than ever to the queen. She needed support, wherever it came from.

Finally, they reached the area of the palace where the humans would be staying. Ruy opened every door and quickly explained where everything was, then left the humans to it. Gideon and Patrick were the last.
